Papi wore a purple shirt the day before i left for Perth, so i took the chance to grab a shot with him :) He knew why...

I was greeted by Amrita (my lovely Cousin) and her workmate Lucy @ the Perth Airport, and they were decked in Purpes especially for ME :)

Along with a bunch of Purple cabbage flowers!

We spied an awesome Purple car along the way home from the Airport...

So i was (am) feeling massively ill over the past week or so, and Fung decided to be nice and "send" over a bouquet of get well soon purple flowers! Ha ha!

My name is Kim. I love the colour Purple. No, scratch that. I really, really, really LOVE the colour Purple. Before i get into what this blog really is all about...

What is Purple? Let's break it down.

'Purple' is a general term used in English to describe the range of shades of color occurring between red and blue. In additive light combinations it occurs by mixing the primary colors red and blue in varying proportions. In subtractive pigments it can be equal to the primary color magenta or be formed by mixing magenta with the colors red or blue, or by mixing just the latter two, in which case a color of low saturation will result. Low saturation will also be caused by adding a certain quantity of the third primary color (green for light or yellow for pigment).

There seems to be a disagreement over exactly which shades can be described as purple, some people preferring more precise terms such as magenta or heliotrope for particular shades. A difference in retinal sensitivity to red and blue light between individuals can cause further disagreement. I'm sure you've ever had a "no that's blue not purple" and vice versa argument with someone before. I personally find these disagreements very frustrating- since the colour Purple means much to me, i hate when it gets erm, misconstrued or overlooked. Not nice. People should be more clear about what Purple really is and stop confusing lesser colours (ie. Blue) for it.

In color theory, "Purple" is defined as any non-spectral color between violet and red (excluding violet and red themselves). The spectral colors violet and indigo are not Purples according to color theory but they are purples according to common English usage since they are between red and blue. How interesting.

In art, purple is the color on the color wheel between magenta and violet and its tints and shades.

In human color psychology, purple is also associated with royalty and nobility (stemming from classical antiquity when Tyrian Purple was only affordable to the elites). Why am i not surprised?

Stemming from various historical backgrounds are the colours Tyrian Purple (aka Imperial Purple), Han Purple (from ancient China), Royal Purple (from the Medieval Europe), Medium-Violet Red (which i personally don't fully consider as Purple), and Electric Purple. There are also some in-betweens (or half-bakes), which can sometimes annoyingly slip under what i like to refer to as the Confidence Interval for the colour Purple. Yes, p < .05.

So what is this blog really about? Considering the therapeutic nature of the colour Purple, i have decided to do a Purple-a-day type thing, and catalog the various Purple paraphernalia/foods/things/items/clothing/buildings/event-related things etc. that come my way. Along with my buys and very own collection of Purple purchases/gifts. I think it'd be a fun way to document the amount of Purple that pervades my very existence.
